Where we plan

Weddings on the Costa Brava.

Pine trees growing out of rock, water the colour of bottle glass, and a sunset that arrives at ten at night in June. It is the stretch of coast couples picture when they say they want to marry by the sea in Spain.

What a Costa Brava wedding actually looks like

The coast runs from Blanes up to the French border, and it changes completely along the way. The southern end is busier and easier to reach. Around Begur, Palafrugell and Calella the coves are small and the light in the late afternoon is the reason photographers move here. Further north, Cap de Creus and Cadaqués are wilder, windier and more dramatic, and two and a half hours from Barcelona.

Most of our couples here do a ceremony outdoors facing the water, a cocktail hour on a terrace while the sun drops, and dinner under lights with the sea audible but no longer visible.

What to know before you fall in love with a cove

  • The tramuntana wind. It is real, it arrives without warning, and it ruins loose florals, paper menus and unweighted lighting. Every outdoor plan we make has a wind version.
  • Public beaches are public. A ceremony on an open beach in August happens in front of strangers and needs a municipal permit. Private terraces and hotel coves avoid both problems.
  • Access. Some of the most beautiful spots are reached by a footpath or a steep track. That is charming for you and difficult for grandparents, caterers and a hundred chairs. We check it before you book it.
  • Distance. Guests staying in Barcelona face a 1.5 to 2.5 hour drive. Either keep everyone near the venue, or budget for coaches. We arrange them.

Catering on the coast

Many of the best Costa Brava settings have no professional kitchen: a villa terrace, a garden above a cove, a restored finca with a domestic oven. Our own kitchen cooks on site with its own equipment, including rice and paella finished in front of your guests, which is what makes those places work at all. Read more about our wedding catering.

When to come

June and September are the sweet spot: warm sea, long evenings, and dinner that can genuinely run outdoors until midnight. July and August are hot and full, and local prices rise with the season. May and early October are beautiful and cheaper, with the risk of one wet day. We will tell you honestly what your date means for the coast you have chosen.
