Why couples choose the vines over the sea

The Penedès is the easiest of our regions to reach — around 45 minutes from Barcelona and its airport — and the one that feels most like the countryside the moment you arrive. It is cava country: Sant Sadurní d'Anoia and Vilafranca sit in the middle of it, and the cellars range from vast industrial houses to family estates where the owner pours for you.

It suits couples who want their wedding to be about the long table, the food and the wine rather than a view, and who would rather their guests stayed on site all weekend.

What the setting gives you

• Shade that already exists. Old masias come with courtyards, plane trees and stone walls, which matters enormously in July.
• A cellar for the bad-weather plan. Most estates have an indoor space that is genuinely beautiful, not a function room.
• Wine with a story. Pairing your dinner with the estate's own cava, poured by the family that made it, is the kind of detail guests remember.
• Rooms on site. Several estates sleep the wedding party, which turns a wedding into a weekend.

The harvest, and other dates to think about

The grape harvest runs from roughly mid-August to late September. Working estates are busy then, machinery moves through the vines and some will not take weddings at all during those weeks. It is also when the vineyards look their best. Tell us your date early and we will tell you which estates can genuinely host you on it.

Catering among the vines

A masia with a domestic kitchen cannot feed eighty people, which is where our own kitchen comes in: we cook on site with our own brigade and equipment.
